FAH’s Chip Kahn and Members Recognized by Modern Healthcare on the Prestigious ‘100 Most Influential’ List

Earlier this week, Modern Healthcare released its annual 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list for 2023. The Federation of American Hospitals is honored to have our membership represented, including FAH President and CEO Chip Kahn, who made the list for the 22nd time – making him the only person to appear each year since the program started in 2002.

This prestigious recognition program acknowledges individuals deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential figures in the industry in terms of leadership and impact.

“The 2023 honorees on our 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare reflect the providers, insurers, technology firms, government leaders, investors and others who have made oversized contributions to the industry in the past year,” said Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief of Modern Healthcare. “Our ranked list honors the C-suite decision-makers using their clout and influence to lead their organizations and make sweeping changes that affect patient care.”

The following FAH leaders appeared on this year’s list:

  • Marty Bonick, President and CEO, Ardent Health Services
  • Sam Hazen, CEO, HCA Healthcare
  • Tim Hintgen, CEO, Community Health Systems
  • Chip Kahn, President and CEO, FAH
  • Dr. Saum Sutaria, CEO, Tenet Healthcare

Modern Healthcare’s annual list is a collaboration of the magazine’s senior editors’ rankings and votes from readers and the public. After a nomination process, readers and editors pick their favorites from a preliminary ballot of 300 healthcare leaders.

Modern Healthcare’s editors said Chip “ is one of the healthcare industry’s top lobbyists… He has had a lasting impact on hospital quality measures.”

It pointed specifically to his founding role in the Hospital Quality Alliance, co-chairing the Measure Applications Partnership Coordinating Committee of the National Quality Forum, and his most recent study in Health Affairs focusing on unfair hospital penalizations under CMS’ value-based programs.
