“Tragedy” and “Triumph” – FAH Leader Comments on End of Public Health Emergency

FAH President and CEO Chip Kahn released the following statement on the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency:

“The end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency is an opportunity to reflect on the human tragedy of the pandemic. But at the same time even more lives were saved. That triumph is due in no small part to the selfless work of frontline caregivers and hospital staff. Words cannot properly convey our gratitude for the sacrifice throughout the pandemic of those who provided and supported each patient’s care.

“This moment is also a chance to reflect on the government response to the crisis, as Republicans and Democrats came together to support hospitals in our lifesaving mission. The funding and flexibility provided by Congress and two Administrations were invaluable as caregivers worked tirelessly to stay one step ahead of the virus and care for millions of patients.

“While there will likely be some bumps throughout this transition back to a new normal, I am confident that those responsible for our nation’s health care learned many lessons and we are now better prepared should a public health emergency arise again.”
