FAH Expresses Support for Confirmations of Biden Health Nominees

WASHINGTON – FAH sent letters to leaders of the Senate Finance Committee expressing support for the nominations and confirmations of Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to serve as the next CMS Administrator and Andrea Palm to serve as the next Deputy Secretary of HHS.

The letters, which were sent to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-ID), highlighted each nominee’s unique and extensive health care experience.

FAH President and CEO Chip Kahn called Brook-LaSure’s nomination historic adding, “With more than two decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, Ms. Brooks-LaSure has both the health policy expertise and sound judgment to lead CMS at this critical juncture. I would be hard-pressed to think of someone with a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of both the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Her unyielding commitment to high-quality, equitable health care, along with innovation in its delivery, will generate a new era of policies that will benefit both patients and providers alike.”

In his letter supporting Palm, Kahn praised her efforts as the Secretary-Designee of the Department of Health Services (DHS) of Wisconsin writing, “She confidently and assuredly navigated her state’s pandemic response and vaccine deployment. Ms. Palm will bring the successes and best practices she enacted on the state level to HHS as the department continues its critical role in pandemic response and recovery. America and its hospitals will be well-served under Ms. Palm’s battle-tested leadership as we continue to respond and care for the nation’s most vulnerable during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Kahn concluded each letter by urging the Senate Finance Committee to approve the nominations expeditiously and expressing support for each to be confirmed by the full U.S. Senate.
