ICYMI: Poll After Poll Shows Overwhelming Voter Opposition to Medicaid Cuts

Ahead of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s scheduled markup next Tuesday, where it will consider up to $880 billion in cuts that would decrease Americans’ coverage and benefits, poll after poll shows broad opposition from voters across the ideological spectrum to Medicaid cuts that would impact the health and well-being of over 70 million Americans, including children, seniors, veterans, and hardworking families.

Fabrizio Ward Medicaid Attitudes Poll, April 2025:

  • 74% of voters have a favorable view of Medicaid, including 61% of Trump voters and 72% of swing voters.
  • 70% of voters oppose Medicaid cuts to pay for tax cuts, including 51% of Trump voters and 67% of swing voters.
  • 69% of voters oppose Medicaid cuts, including 70% of swing voters. Trump voters oppose Medicaid cuts by 10 points, 49%-39%.

McLaughlin & Associates Medicaid Battleground Congressional Districts Survey, April 2025:

  • 88% of voters support Medicaid, including 78% of Trump voters and 87% of Independents.

KFF Health Tracking Poll, April 2025:

  • 76% of voters opposed Medicaid cuts, including 55% of Republicans and 79% of Independents.

NAMI/Ipsos Medicaid Awareness Survey, April 2025:

  • 84% of voters believe Medicaid is an essential program to provide health care to vulnerable Americans, including 77% of Republicans and 87% of Independents.
  • 71% of voters surveyed oppose cutting Medicaid funding to reduce spending, including 55% of Republicans and 73% of Independents.  
  • 78% of voters say Medicaid cuts would lead to worse health outcomes for low-income individuals and families, including 63% of Republicans and 82% of Independents.

Navigator Research Survey, April 2025:

  • 77% of voters view Medicaid favorably, including 70% of Republicans and 66% of Independents.
  • 75% of voters oppose Medicaid cuts, including 53% of Republicans and 78% of Independents.

Vanderbilt University, April 2025:

  • 89% of Tennessee voters oppose Medicaid cuts, including nearly 80% of Republicans and 88% of Independents.

KFF Health Tracking Poll, February 2025:

  • Majorities of voters across the ideological spectrum want Medicaid funding increased or kept the same, including 67% of Republicans and 85% of Independents.
  • 96% of voters say Medicaid is important to their communities, including 94% of Republicans and 97% of Independents.

Hart Research, February 2025:

  • 82% of voters say cutting Medicaid is unacceptable, including 71% of Trump voters.
