FAH Opposes Legislation Loosening Physician Self-Referral Laws in Congressional Letter

In a letter sent last week, FAH expressed its opposition to Representatives Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Kevin Hern (R-OK), Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), and Lou Correa (D-CA) ‘s reintroduction of the Physician Led and Rural Access to Quality Care Act.

While FAH commends the lawmakers’ commitment to increasing access to rural care, it notes that the legislation would allow for the expansion of existing physician-owned hospitals (POHs) and enable self-referral under physician ownership of hospitals, which would open rural communities to well-documented conflict of interest concerns and threaten the viability of their full-service hospitals.
